Martin Luther King, JR. Bridge is New Crossing for Oceanside

MLK_Bridge.jpgOceanside High students traveling over the Mission Avenue Bridge just east of the school will now recognize the structure as the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge.  The City of Oceanside officially re-named the structure in honor of the former civil rights leader during a special ceremony Thursday on the OHS campus.

Two new street signs symbolizing the late Dr. King were unveiled as former Pirate and OHS Class of ’68 graduate Willie Buchanon delivered the keynote address and rang a symbolic Freedom Bell.  Student dance teams provided entertainment, while Mayor Jim Wood also thanked the school and the community for supporting such an important project.
