Letters of Recommendation

Requesting a Letter of Recommendation

Letters of recommendation from your teachers and others (coaches, club advisors, religious leaders etc.) are an important part of applications for colleges and universities, as well as job applications and scholarship applications.

We want to tell the world how good a student you are, but there are some requirements.

Letters should not be from someone that is related to you.

  • Make your request at least 10 school days before the recommendation due-date.
  • Provide recommender a brag sheet and a copy of your transcript, if possible.

  • Provide recommender a copy of the request/paperwork for university, college, scholarship, etc.

  • Either provide the recommender with an addressed AND stamped envelope-make sure of appropriate envelope size and postage OR if the college/scholarship requires an electronic upload of the letter, let the recommender know that.

  • Be sure to hand write your recommender a thank-you letter!
