OCEANSIDE HIGH ROBOTICS

2014 Robotics Club Pictures 010-450.jpgOceanside High after-school STEM Robotics program is an expanded advantage enrichment workshop for students interested in Robotics, ROVs and Computer Programming, to develop and expand their skills and to promote community outreach opportunities, as well as, to mentor students using their skills in STEM feeder-schools. In the program, students are developing hands-on building skills, analytic design skills, competition fund-raising and computer programming as well as having fun socializing with fellow peers with similar interests.

Robo1-Gp-450.jpgActivities: The program was originally designed to provide a workshop for Robotics Club students to create, plan, and expedite their robots for participation in competitions such as KIPR Bot Ball; International Autonomous Robotic competition (IARoC), which includes a Drag race, Maze and Robot Rush. Other competitions have included Sea Perch (underwater remote-controlled crafts) and Kid Wind (turbo-generated crafts). Activities are implemented on the campus program, outreach in feeder STEM school campuses, travel to competitions on campuses sponsoring robotic competitions, as well as, promote College awareness in Engineering and Design.

Mentoring: The program also includes opportunities for robotics club students to mentor and encourage tech savvy using JAVA and C++ computer programming and creative craft building designs using advanced skills and leadership they have developed in Robotics Club. The program provides an interesting place for implementing STEM tutoring Computer Science and Programming classes.

Collaboration: The students who meet at lunch in Robotics Club on Tuesdays and SHPE Jr. Chapter on Thursdays integrate similar engineering interests, enhance college engineering awareness, and implement school spirit in their robotics competitions.
